Pre week end update

Ok, I think this is the last time the picture will show it "real size". I know that for most of us, it's already way into Saturday, but I haven't stitched yet today so... I guess it counts ;)

I feel very not motivated for anything, so I guess I will do a stitchaton on this design... the challenge being to stitch it in less than the 3 weeks the magazine predicts. So we'll see how much I will stitch this week end !

-----------------

Update 3

Well, picture today.... It really feels like I don't progress in this thing, but I guess I haven't exactly been stitching full speed... Depression doesn't help.

The debate still to work a little bit, some people have been really vocal, it's so cool ! Feel free to express yourself, the more the merrier !

-----------------------------

Bon, aujourd'hui. image...

Aida vs Linen: Beginners vs experts?

Unless you were given a Lanarte kit (evenweave fabric) as a first Cross Stitch project, chances are you started stitching on aida. It's the fabric of choice in kits, magazines and shops. The holes are nicely visible, and it's easy to count stitches.
I find it has a "squarish" and more modern look than evenweave and linen, a look I appreciate personally.
But most people tend to switch to linen and call it heaven. Is it really better than aida, or is it a fashion trend ?
Linen and evenweave allow for speciality stitches work, and easier fractionals and a more natural/tablecloth look.
American designs are very popular in the bloggosphere, and even French designers started mimicking their style. These designs are all on linen. Is it a look choice, or do they compensate the naive easy big blocks style by using a fabric it's not so easy to stitch on?
So what do you think? what fabric do you prefer? Why?

-----------------------------------------------------

New debate on my website !!!

I didn't stitch enough for a picture this time... so... I will do a bit of comments replying.

Tracy, your "Mums are angels" with brown hair is super cool ! Unfortunately for me, it still reminds me more of my grandma than my mom ! So I don't regret my choice... As for the stitching angel, I started it before you, so of course there's a great probability of me finishing it first. Unfair competition here... ;)

Annie, thanks for the opportunity of discovering your blog. I love the cross stitch/crochet dolls, but aren't they a little bit flat ? Or am I mising something ? Your comment about aida gave me an idea for a discussion on my website: "Aida vs Linen: Beginners vs experts?" it's funny to see aida being refered as "out of fashion" when it seems to me more modern looking !

---------------------

Petit a petit...

Update picture, I know it doesn't look like much... But some of the colours you see are actually 2 very similar colours, so the colour changes are taking a long time, so there are less crosses done.

Tracy, I didn't even buy the magazine with "Mums are angels", because the mum in question looked like a grandma to me, so it wouldn't have been appropriate to stitch it for my mom ;) They say that angel should take 3 weeks to stitch... Let's see if I can manage and stitch in less than that. Of course, it all depends if I get fed up with it soon or not, like "Mama Christmas", but I feel like taking my time, and relaxing while changing threads and such... so who knows?

Besides, I chose a 16count antique white aida, the cheap kind, but it's a pleasure to stitch on it, big holes and good regular result...

At least I'm happy you like my version of the mouth, it seems like the most difficult part of the design is done. Whatever the rest will look like, she won't look like a freak ;)

----------------------------

CrossStitcher 201 July 2008

Freebie: Margaret Sherry's holiday cat. This is the main reason why I bought the magazine. The threads in this kit look like that cheap Chinese brand again, but this time you have DMC and Anchor equivalents written on the chart. So you could use your own threads.
The mood of the magazine is... Fresh. And not only because it's written int he subtitle ofthe cover ;) Lots of pink and clear tones....
The only project that makes it to my to do list is Andree Langhorn's little fairies. I'm sure the occasion will rise that I will stitch those for someone. They have that cute baby/50ies look my grandma loves so much.
The rest of the magazine is made for summer, with realistic boats and cars, baby samplers and flowers.
There is a traditional sampler in there as well, and I got a huge shock when I saw it was from "Tournicoton", a French designer we French stitchers know only too well !!! It's great to see UK magazines taking an interest in a foreign designer... There's even a feature about Anne. Unfortunately I don't really like the sampler, I guess it's the pink/brown colour...
Oh, and for those of you who got taken in the Indiana Jones storm, there'a pattern of Harrison Ford.

--------------------------------------------------------------

We love it, do it again !

So I started Joan Elliott's stitching angel... As usual I went for the head, from the middle which is the hoop. I already said I don't like her mouth, so I decided to get it over with. I dug up similar patterns (well, it's easy, Joan Elliott's patterns are all inthe same file), and I found an old "stitching fairy" that was already on my todo list.

I scanned both patterns so you can see how similar they are... I'm thinking of stitching both, and turn them into pending cushion, that could be fun.

In the meantime, I made my own version of the angel's face... a mix of both patterns for the mouth. So her mouth ended up smaller, with a "content" expression. I thought it was more realistic.

I reviewed CrossStitcher 201 as well, click to read it.

---------------------

Quand on aime, on recommence !

Framing day.... and other stuff

I started the day by searching for threads. The little market shop had my favourite DMC 4045 green variation thread, but was out of 931 and 5283. So I had to buy stuff in Hobbycraft later.

I found 2 frames in the market. It was amazing to find a long frame for the sampler. Soooo much easier than a bellpull, especially since I have no special top thingy or anything...

Finishing the border on Garden Girl was a nightmare, but a puzzling one. We could play "spot the differences" on that project, as there are mistakes a bit everywhere. So the 2 ends of the border shouldn't join... Except I cheated a little.

Before that I worked on my website. Again. First, I wanted something more "News about crafts" compared to my blog. Then I wanted to translate in French.

So the works are not totally done yet, but you can get the idea...

I also bought CrossStitcher and World of CrossStitcher this morning, and made a review of WOCS (CS will come later). So that's why Joan Elliott's new Stitching Angel is on my sidebar now. Just started. 34 different colours. Now that's a challenge...

---------------------------

World of CrossStitching 139

Free gift: All Our Yesterdays mini kit. Yet another one... I guess, if some are fans...
I mainly bought this magazine for Joan elliott's Stitching Angel. I will start it when I'm finished with reviews... The only thing is I don't like her mouth, it's too low, I will have to change it.
Also note an original finish: instead of sewing the design on the fabric of the cushion, it's fusible web.
Another pattern that will go in my to do pile, only a bit deeper, is Gail Bussi's fairy scene.
Other patterns include
- a lovely Solo cat cuddly scene (would stitch it if I was a cat fan)
- a japanese scene from Sue Page (colours too faint)
- a seaside sampler
- realistic falcon by Lesley Teare
- mini motifs for olympic games, kite and ballons, and cats cards.

------------------------------------------------------

Cadeau: un mini kit de All my Yesterdays.

Bee Harmony finished

Well... all is said in the title... Let's just look at the picture. I will be sewing something like a bellpull this week end...

---------------------

When magazines try to trick us....

This deserves a whole post for itself... Stay tuned for my Bee Harmony happy dance.

Yesterday, after I finished Bee Harmony, I decided to work on the owl.

Remember how I complained about the dark fabric being visible under my clear stitches?

I was thinking about all thatgreen and blue I would have to stitch after the owl, and looking at the model picture when I saw those stitches had clear spots underneath.

So I looked closely at the model and that's when I realised the stitched piece has been stitched on white, and then the thing has been cut and paste onto dark blue aida ! If you look at the close up, it becomes very clear indeed....

No wonder the owl looks all plump and white on the model...

----------------------

Garden Girl... almost !

Yesterday, 8.15pm : I'm in the middle of stitching the border of Garden girl, when I run out of DMC 931. Of course, Hobbycraft is closed at 8.00pm. Doh !

It's a shame, because I was on a roll. The side was hard enough, and I thought of you, Ginny, with your borders not joining up... Because the design is about 2 stitches higher than it should be. So I had to compensate with 3 "over 3" stitches along the way.

That's the good thing about linen, if you notice problems early, you can compensate with "over 3" or "over 1" stitches (in only onedirection of course).

As it was still early, I started "Home of a needleworker (too)" because I didn't feel like stitching fancy stuff. I'm always more concentrated in the morning, so that's when I stitch my sampler and other complex stuff. And about the sampler, I only have 4 bees to stitch and it will be done ! Looks like I will be doing some sewing this long week end...

Patternnuts, I don't think there is a specific name for animals made out of beads. It's a sort of bead weaving... Scoubidous have another name in English, but I don't remember what it is... it's those plastic tubes you bread a certain way... it became popular again last year over here.

---------------------------------

A bit of Pink Fairies

The Garden Girl just needs her border... so I suppose I will show a finish tomorrow, or later. Here is my progress on the Pink Fairies. The original picture is on the left sidebar. You can see a girl and someone a bit smaller, but there is still a lot of work to do.

I started this in Spring last year, and put it on hold to stitch Easter cards, but never really came back to it. It's a shame as it's a lovely design...

Patternnuts, making animals out of beads wasn't really common, but we did a little bit anyway. The popular crafts were friendship bracelets, and scoubidous. We used to make them at recess.

----------------------------

Back in the garden....

I seem to be in a rotation phase... I have "Garden Girl", "Bee Harmony", "Flying owl" and "Pink Fairies" on the go. If you look closely, each project represent a stitching style.

Garden girl is a no backstitching, blocks country style project. Bee Harmony is all about speciality stitches. The flying owl is all in tones and realistic. And the Pink fairies is a classical European style, realistic and backstitched.

So I decided not to start a project in one of those styles unless the ongoing project is finished. Why?

Yesterday I received my order from 123Stitch. The threads for "Home of a needleworker too" (LHN, you know, the threads I can't find anywhere in my house...), a Stoney Creek Halloween booklet, "Wool needlebook and fob" (LHN) and "Beatrice" from the Trilogy (cute bunny design). Now that I have the threads, I really want to stitch Home of a needleworker. But I don't want to leave Garden girl, so I decided to finish that first.

And so I have to finish it fast, right? Here you see a picture of it, all I have to do is another bottom border, and the border around it.

I'm glad you like my flying owl project. I hate working on dark fabric. Isn't that weird? I don't mind doing intricate mini work, but dark fabric... yuck ! It's a shame, because the final result is usually stunning. I find it easier to work with my daylight lamp though, because I can see the holes better. Can someone revive Lili please?

Ginny, did you finish your snowflakes on dark blue aida? Weren't they super great, despite the difficulty?

I had a look at the Mystery sampler of Anne les petites croix, and now I want to stitch that project, doh ! I don't really like that kind of pochette, so I guess I would have to make a bellpull anyway... sort of.
Zeb, congratulations on finishing so many projects ! Personally I'm a serial starter. I have to fight my tendancies... if only to show finishes on my blog !!! ;)

I have to say my little turtle is a hit. Apparently, the cat not so much. That's ok, I don't really like it either ;) It's really not difficult to make. That's the kind of craft we used to make as kids... We used to make little crocodiles. I think I'll make some more turtles... it's relaxing.

---------------------------------------

A blast from the past

On Saturday, after a bit of gardening because I didn't feel like stitching, I decided to sort out my "papers" (books, magazines, charts...) in my craftroom. That's how I came across the Flying owl, an old chart from Maria Diaz from the great area when Quick and Easy had 2-3 charts I wanted to stitch each month. This one is from the July 2004.

This project is the essence of UFO... I looked into my blog archives, and I apparently started it that very July 2004, as an easy project to change from "Angel of CrossStitching". Easy it was not: dark fabric, colours very close together in the whitish range... I finally gave up.
But on Saturday I felt it was a shame it's not finished, and anyway in 4 years I became a more experienced stitched, and my daylight lamp would help anyway...

Stitching wise, I'm also in the last band of the sampler ( the one similar to the first, with bees and stuff). The bellpull idea is interesting, and I might use it, but... it's still too close to framing in the sense that it ends up on the wall ;) And no Jenn, I don't have anything against bellpulls...

Lili, the sampler is about 15x30 cm. It's a big piece. And no, I'm not afraid the stitches would get damaged... I belong to a family who has quite a few embroided pieces, doilies and table tops... All that is used and reused, and machine washed, ironed, etc... and it remains in good condition. Plus I don't have pets that would damage stuff... so... I could make a cushion out of the sampler and it would remain intact.

Yesterday I made these 2 little beaded critters. The cat's eyes are a little too big, I sould make it again with different eyes. But I love my little turtle. I displayed it on my decoration tree on the mantle piece.

Patternnuts, I sense a need of stitching reading... that I lost a while ago. I agree that there are "gossip" articles in UK magazines missing from the US ones, but I'm not a gossip kind of girl. I'm fed up of "well done" words in the letters, and of the charity stitchers, or slimming stitchers, or budgie stitchers... The magazines are a bit too expensive for just gossip...

Ginny, don't worry, you won't miss anything by reading in English only. I'm well aware most of the people can't read French !

Sandra, for drawn thread work, I would use at least 28 count linen or evenweave. Linen would give a more natural/old fashioned look, but evenweave might be easier to count the trheads, and might look more regular. I would mostly think of the scissors (very very fine!) you will use for cutting the threads. For a first time, I would not use a higher count than 28, so that you can cut each thread individually easily.

-----------------------------------------------

Jusqu'a present.

Bees buzzing.. or needle buzzing?

This time I'm only showing the bottom of the design so we can see the stitches closer...

Winter is back in beautiful England, and I have to switch the light on even in the morning, so of course my pictures are crappy. I had to do 2 extra rows of four sided stitches this morning, it's hell. Still one to go in the design...

The thing is the fabric thread on top of those stitches shows, separate from the rest... So I don't have nice holes. But at this point, I don't care, the overall design doesn't suffer, so....

I have a very important question to you all: how should finish this design?

I don't feel like framing it. I was thinking to make a cushion similar to the chickadees, but it might be too big ! So I'm looking for original ideas.... come on, even things you feels are a bit so so...

Chiloe, "De Fil en Aiguille" is the only French magazine I look at usually. And I buy it sometimes, but only if there are stuff I want to stitch. Mind you, I never stitched anything from those magazines... But their finishings are inspiring.

I don't know if I write my blog for me or for others. I think it's more for others. If it was only for me, I would only keep my Picassa album, with technical details about my projects, end of story. I like to read other people's blogs. And usually the way I write is what I like in other's blogs. So yes, I guess this whole thing is very complex...

A note for French people reading in English: I don't translate things litterally. I re-write in French, to say about the same thing. It's part of my French/English switch brain. But it means that I often write different things in both languages... Especially when it's specific to French people ;)

So it's worth skimming through the French version too...

Patternnuts, I'm glad you entered a phase of "I speak my mind" (yes, I do read your blog... ;)) Do you still subscribe to the magazines? You know, CrossStitcher's blog is now presenting the issues, with pictures of the projects... It's a way of knowing what's coming. I hope you get back to your satin project, I'm kinda rubbish at that stitch for some reason...

-----------------------------------

Keep on buzzing

Ah ah... Could it be? a progress pic? Yes !

On Bank May week end I left it to the drawn thread herringbone purple line.

I spent a lot of time on those four sided square stitches, because it's what we call "pulled work". You have to pull your thread hard to produce holes, and, well... it's hard. With and without a frame. Over 2 threads gives you something quite invisible (bands 5 and 7), but it got better with the over 4 threads one (band 10).

The sort of white flowers on band 8 didn't come out nice at first, because of the tension difference between stitches, but I passed the needle underneath to pull back and forth and it gave that nice plump effect.

Leaves in backstitch are long to do, but this time I didn't have to frog most of it, so it's quite an achievement ! Otherwise, well... I'm in the middle of the design I think. I already have frights at the idea that I will have to do something so that the design would look straight... eeek !

I'm glad you enjoyed my little "variations comparison". I might do more little tips like that in the future.

Tip of the day: when your satin stitches don't look too good or even, stick the needle under the whole cluster and pull back and forth so that the threads get parallel to eachother.

Pink Canary, I thought "Broderie Inspiration" looked familiar... I bought some of the Australian version issues alerady. I still have to get the courage to try anything from them !

Now, a bit of blogging stuff, and the meme... BTW, feel free to take the questions and answer them on your blog, I took it from somewhere else myself.... ;)

Pink canary, I have to say I enjoy discovering new blogs as well, and at one point my main source was the comments. now, well... not so much. I guess it's hard to comment when you don't know what to say. Is "love the picture, well done" enough? And then there's that time effect... So many blogs, so little time, so we tend to visit like Speedy Gonzales, and I now realise that my posts these days are so long people will just give up anyway ;)

Lutine, I started reading your blog like 2 years ago because not only do we share the same tastes in stitching, but also movies and other stuff... and now we even have the same feeling about blogging ;) I think there are a lot of good blogs, quality blogs, I have like 200 on my bloglines !!! Or I don't see the defects... ;)

Patternnuts, Chiloe... we discussed the magazines issue. When I was writing the magazine reviews, I subscribed to most of them, because they were interesting, and had charts I was stitching. After the quality of the magazines went drastically down, I found myself skimming through the pages, not even reading. So I decided to unsubscribe.

Now, what would a review of a magazine with no design I'm interested in would look like? "I like nothing in this issue, it's all crap, don't buy it". Do I want to spend nearly 4 pounds (to buy the magazine) for that? 4 pounds I could buy crafty things with? Hum, not really....
Not to mention that magazines like CrossStitcher are more and more present on the web, and might not appreciate me hammering them systematically...

So me not writing reviews (and in doing so having an hour extra of stitching time) is a strong statement: The magazines are so bad they are not worth buying, and not worth spending time writing about them.

Now, I recently made some reviews on websites, and products, but they are on my website... the only thing is it takes time to find stuff to review and to make posts, on top of the regular posts... so it's hard to make it regular !

But I might concentrate on that sometime...

Chiloe, even if there was a time I didn't post regularly, I don't see why people shouldn't come back. That's what Google reader is for ;) Things like moving, or being sick for a long time, got in the way of posting ;) BTW, I read your blog everyday too. In fact, all people who comment I visit you everyday.

Now I will stop talking and switch to French. This too, double the amount of time needed to post....

-----------------------------

Let's do the meme...

Note that my finish post is below this one...

Why did you start your blog? When I started to stitched more than usual,, in summer 2003, I was looking for cross stitch websites, and didn't really find any. At that time I also discovered the blogs systems. So an idea matured in my head, with the help of DBF: create a news/tips website on cross stitching, using the blog technology. That's why in the beginning it was mostly themes and infos in my blog. By the time I got ready to write full steam, about 10 blogs had appeared. The blog quickly changed direction to "stitching journal and progress pics" because that's what people wanted to see at the time.

How did you come up with your blog name? It was my website's name. Just kept things consistent.

Do your friends and family know about your blog and if so, what do they think of it? I know my mom's a reader. So if I make stuff for her, I have to hide it. Family and friends are supportive, I mean, they like my crafts, so... it's the same world !

How do you write posts? Start with the photo, then just write as I think about it... Not really difficult, people mostly want to see the technical details, and anyway lots of people just look at the picture and don't read, so...

Have you ever had a troll or had someone leave unkind comments? Only once: the designer from Heritage Stitchcraft who sort of invented "squashed stitches" asked me to remove my posts about those stitches. Those unusual crosses got a lot of stitchers confused, and I just advised using evenweave and not aida (where you would have to pierce between holes). I got a huge support from stitchers at the time.

Do you check your stats? rarely, it's too depressing

Do you care how many people read your blog? Yes, and that's a problem. I have to say I miss 2-3 years ago, when we were only a few bloggers, when I got so many visitors and commentors, it felt like writing to friends. There was a real sense of community and fun.

Nowadays I don't really know who reads me, the stats have gone down due to too many blogs to read (and mine seems drown in the lot) and RSS feeds (readers that don't show up in the stats).

What kind of blogs/posts interest you? Blogs like mine ;) Theme wise, I like cross stitch and Japanese oriented crafts. Style wise, I like to know a bit about people, without the blog turning into a family album, and fun anecdotes. The main criteria for a blog to enter my Bloglines list is the kind of projects the person is making.

What do you like and dislike about blogging?

Except for a gap in the 2005-2006, I have a record of my crafts. I didn't realise how valuable it was at first... but it is. In the beginning blogging was fun as people were ommenting more, and I met friends via my blog, like Lili.

But now blogging in general is quite deceiving. I'm lost in the mass. I don't get 5 comments within an hour of post as I used to. There are too many blogs too read, too much the same, and we have a life, need time to stitch, etc... Without that dialog with people, the blog system seems a bit "confusing". The big problem of blogging is that you need a more organised way of keeping a record of your projects, tutorials, tips and ideas. Nobody will read all the posts !!! So it takes double time to do, and even like that people don't think about going to the sources.

There you go, blogging was way more fun years ago. Even as a reader, I feel I miss some great blogs because, like mine, it's lost in the lot. With so many cross stitchers blogging, how can knitting be the main needlecraft????

------------------------------

Bunnies and strawberries finished !

Half an hour of work later... the Strawberries design is done ! This time I took a picture with my camera, so the colours should be more realistic, but the green is still too dark, probably the way the daylight hits the threads (from the top).

I used all DMCs. The only variegated is the green DMC 4045. I use it a lot. It's the most precious thread in the variations collection.

To show the "variations" versatility, I used that thread in 2 ways. Leaves and borders are made one cross at a time. So the leaves have that defined "line" effect, that I didn't really want for the grass. So there I stitched by line, a whole line of half crosses, and back.

So it still gives a visible variation, but the transitions are softer, more natural.

We all know I will be spending time this week end in my sewing room, making pouches...

What's next? Easy, Garden Girl and Bee Harmony are still waiting... I bought nice Embroidery magazines in France over the week end, but I left them at DBF's, so I will have to wait to be able to use them ;)

-----------------------------------

Bunnies and strawberries

A little something new... The "on the go" project of the week end, "Strawberries" from Little House Needleworks. This is a project I meant to stitch since ages. Bunnies, and strawberries, what more can we want?

And in the initial idea, I also wanted to make a pouch out of it, the Spring/Summer version of the Acorn pouch. I suppose I will stick to the idea ;)

So this picture is the result of Friday evening/this morning work. The colours are very wrong for some reason... I'll have to take a picture with my camera when the design is finished (probably tomorrow?)

------------------------------

A garden teapot on a tea cosy

If you are following the secret stitches (I keep a mailing list to send passwords for that... if you want to be in it, just send me you email adress!),you know I stitched a garden teapot for my mom's 60th birthday, to put on a tea cosy.

Because I only sewed the design on the tea cosy last week end (bought in Asda... at first I wanted to make it from scratch, but then I found the colours were going well together, and it would look better with the quilted effect...), I thought I could wait a week and show it to everybody today (The following day of the birthday).

I unlocked the previous posts, so you can start reading the story here (beginning and story), here (in between) and here (finished design).

I also included the little amigurumi doll, and the tea cup. The birthday party was quite huge (for us), 25 people meeting in a nice restaurant in blistering hot weather, then going to my parents to open the presents and stay in the garden... Needless to say my crafts were a hit. A cousin suggested I sell stitched designs like the teapot (hum... maybe not), and my grandma wanted a mini doll, even if she already has the original bigger one.

I only stitched a little bit on friday night during travel, so I can't say it was a stitching week end... on the contrary !

---------------------------------

Now with flowers...

Progress isn't obvious... but the flowers blossomed in the garden ! Headache due to stress and sun, aquasize... and I don't stitch in the evening at all !

Other than that, well...nothing?

Patternnuts, no biscuit !!! If you look at it closely, the cup has eyes, and won't be eaten or drunk... the tea will... ;) Or biscuit without eyes then?

PS: no eyes on the girl right now, and I don't know if I will put eyes or not... the original design has eyes though...

---------------------------

In the garden again...

I know, where was I... one big big message, then... bye bye? No... But after such a prolific week end, I was so tired I didn't stitch much.

But I managed to stitch a little bit on the garden girl, and my trees now have bicolour leaves. The 2 greens are very similar, so you can't see it's 2 greens ;)

I had to stitch the bottom border twice, because my spacings were wrong... doh !

patternnuts, I didn't make a crochet cake, but I made a tea cup ! Just for the fun of it ;)

Zeb, it's great to see you are back to stitching ! We can't always be super motivated... I tend to drop off stitching from time to time too, that's why I bore people with amigurumis for exemple. Having a blog kept me motivated though, without it I would spend a lot more time without stitching !!!!

Ginny, you should definatly give speciality stitches a go, some are sooooo lovely ! Most of them derive from crosses anyway. I think the mostly fiddly is the french knot, and the bullion knot. Otherwise it's just a question of following the diagram to know where to push and pull the needle !

I haven't been motivated to stitch the sampler, the 4 sided stitches killed me !!! Don't know why....

The weather is absolutely sublime, summer is here !!! But i don't stitch in the garden, no...

-------------------------------------

Tuesday 6 May 2008

3 days of crafting fun...

Loads of pictures today...

Instead of posting during the week end, I prefered to craft, and wait to post during the week. I know, don't ask. let's just say I had an urge to stitch and stitch some more.... It gave me great focus ! And that's how things are done...

I found a pattern for a crocheted daffodil, and had to make it as this is my favourite flower. Me and crochet are not best friends at the moment, my hands get tired fast. Cramps and the like. I suppose that's how stitching took over...

As predicted, I finished the birds !!!! Half stitches background was finished Sunday morning, and I did a little bit of the backstitching, but it got boring, so I left it and took... Garden Girl !!! Why? It was a wip closeby... Yesterday morning I was motivated for it again and finished it, including the french knots on the flowers.

I was so motivated that I even made a cushion out of it. It's been a while since I wanted to try this type of cushion. And with this project, it was not only easy, but a must !

You might have noticed that the background made a rectangle, and so any attempt at framing would require lacing, or other techniques so that the borders ould be perfectly aligned. Here, I sewed the fabrics on the edge of the borders. Easy peasy. I've put the birds on my mantle piece, instead of the "Gingerbread Cottage", which is too "winterey".

So as I previously said, I worked on Garden Girl. I have a sort of love/hate relationship with this design. Most of the time I feel it's too naive and childish. But sometimes I find it cute, like right now. And it's nice to stitch it. Would it be the lovely weather we have?

I also started Bee Harmony from Patricia Ann. This is part of "I want to stitch a speciality stitches sampler". I had the choice between a few samplers, but my choice was directed by the fact that this one DBF likes. Well, I had to make a choice anyway....

I hear Lili saying "eek ! bees !" already, but I like them, so delicate in over one stitches... That's how I see i progressed as a stitcher: I didn't have problems with disappearing stitches this time...
Garden Girl and Bee Harmony being 2 very different projects, I will stitch them at the same time (well, switching from one to the other of course !!!).

patternnuts, I'm not really interested in food I can't eat, it defies the whole purpose of it. Of course if you add eyes to make cute amigurumies, well, they just become cute characters. Otherwise, real food is better ;)

-------------------------------------------------------

Background growing...

Friday before the big week end... I have to say I'm looking forward to this, 3 days of crafting... But I know I won't do half of what I planned, and perhaps not much crafting at all ! Well, I hope not...

One sure thing is that I have to finish the birds. There is already quite a bit of background, but there is still a lot more to do. Some parts are difficult because of similar colours. You can't see it but the purple is actually 2 purples for exemple. And then there will be the backstitching, hourray....

Patternuts, you are funny. How did you end up with that post??? I'm not keen on making food you can't eat... I don't see the point?

-------------------------------------------------

Little pin roses = Fimo roses, follow the link...

http://angelsan.blogspot.com/2008/02/little-saturday-morning-crafty-blob.html

it's the direct link... remember I made those polymer clay roses on pins in order to stick into pin cushions and other stitched stuff? Ask Lili, she got some of those...

green half stitches?

Show amigurumis, and people go away... how fun... ;)

I'm still stitching (yes, yes!!!!), and thinking about designing again. I'm just so lazy, and there are so many great designs out there I want to stitch... I need more time during the day to do everything I want.... ;) So far I enjoy the half stitches on the birds... I don't mind half stitches, they are actually faster to do than crosses !!!

I just have to plan a different path of stitching, as I don't go back and forth, only forward !

I was wondering if anybody would be interested in buying my little pin roses? could be useful for pinkeep decorations and all? If so, I would put them in my shop.

I bought the latest CrossStitcher (UK) magazine. Mostly because of Margaret Sherry's hedgehogs. And as a bonus there's the "S" squirel from the ABC... The only problem is that the colour references are all in Anchor. Plus the hedgehogs colours are yuck. Oh, and the gift pouch is sort of weird, there is no closing system, so are things bound to fall from it?

I know it's not serious, but I feel like stitching a big lady project, one of Joan Elliott medieval ladies... It's not serious because I should be stitching Cinderella, of course !!! I also feel like stitching a speciality stitches sampler, but I don't have the courage to start... I hope the long week end will help !

-------------------------------------------------
