Happy zombie Halloween

Here is something typical : Holiday week, loads of stuff planned, and paff. Fever, and bacteriological warfare in my throat. And I never have fever. I spent all yesterday in bed shivering, and I'm a total zombie, and of course my doctor is on holidays too ! Oh well...

Here is a picture of the Halloween stuff I made this year...

There's the tree, I made with fuse beads. And knitted pumpkins, and a ghost.

So that's all for now, enjoy Halloween !

--------------------------

An odd knitting toolbox

Not so long ago, DBF and friends and I went to the "Micromania gameshow". Micromania is a videogames chain of shops like Gamestop, GameStation or Game, but only in France, and they organise events in different towns where we all sit in a movie theater and the show us videogame plays and trailers. And this year we each found a goodie bag with Tshirts and.... a PS Vita Sega case. DBF has a Vita, but I don't, so obviously such a case doesn't seem very useful.

But then I was knitting the bunny, and I started to put the different pieces in it, and my scissors, and needles and stuff, and.... the box for hightech gizmo became a very handy knitting box ! DBF can't believe it !!!

Rosie the white bunny

I know everybody is probably thinking about Halloween right now, but in France it isn't a big deal (to DBF's dismay), so I knit.... whatever.

So here is a lady bunny in a fuschia dress, and pink cardigan. The pattern of knits and purls gives a losange design, and french knots were added on the cardigan. The colours are very girly and maybe a bit more Spring like, but the bunny looks very cosy in those clothes.

I plan on making other teddies, this time with plush yarn, but for the moment I try to focus on my knitted vest. I'm knitting the hood, and it seems to take forever !!! But I can't leave it unfinnished now !!!

I might make something for Halloween, but it might end up being just a new outfit for lady bunny here.

------------------------------------------

The beginning of the Hama village

Last January I had a first try at using Hama beads (fuse beads). It's a fun technique, but making pixel like pictures for fridge magnets and the like weren't that interesting. But recently I saw people making 3D objects, and I thought it was a fantastic idea. That's how I came up with these little winter houses.

I'm still experimenting with the design. The pink house was the first. The walls are straight, and si I needed to sew the parts with nylon threads, needless to say it's a pain to do.

Then came the blue house, with walls that imbricate. Now that was a lot more elegant. I only needed to find a way to glue the roof on, and surprisingly PVA glue gave the best results.

The orange house is a bigger version of the blue. Now all I have to do is make some more houses.

But I'm wondering if it's really worth it. On one hand, i love to make the houses, and I love plastic. I suppose it comes from my childhood filled with plastic toys, from Legos to Playmobils. We have to enjoy it while we still have oil ;)

On the other hand, don't they look a bit childish? Too basic and rough?

What do you all think?

-------------------------------------------------

ID Creatives Lille 2012

Yesterday I went to "ID Créatives", a craft expo that goes from town to town in France. I went to the event 4 years ago, but it was so small, with not much, that I didn't go every year.

But this year I felt like checking it out, if only to have a feel of the new trends. So I called my mom to make a day out of it. Hum, this I said day? It took us a little more than an hour to browse all the stands !!! can you say "small"????

First, I have to congratulate the organisation of the stands. There were different sections, textile, paper, customisation, cooking, decoration, each with a different colour on the floor. It helps a lot to know where you are.

Then, of course, what did we see? Lots of paper stuff, scrapbooking, little elements to decorate whatever you want, beads, fabric... It was mostly shops in there, of course. So there were loads of lovely tiny things to see, and so I was left with 2 options : buy a lot, too much, that will end up with the rest of the "must haves" from years past, that never got used, or just look. I went for option 2.

Mom got me a spritzer, to make great effects by turning markers into airbrush. I still have to master this, I'll talk more about it later !

Now, many will ask : "where are the expo pictures?" Well, I forgot to take my camera. It's been so long since I blogged on a regular basis, I lost the reflex to take the camera with me everywhere. Anyway, many stands had a "no photography" sign, and the pictures would have looked a lot like the ones 4 years ago, so just click on the link above to see them.

All in all, it was an enjoyable time out, but a short one.

-----------------------------------------

Picasa, my best friend

These past months, I didn't just knit on my vest. I made a few little things.... and it's easy to get them lost in the craft basket. But then there is this lovely thing called "inventory". After all, I have to prepare for 3 Christmas fairs this year. So this means making a list of what I have, and the prices... and pictures.

This is where Picasa is a very handy tool. I can upload pictures and keep them in chronological order, with notes, in just one click. So I invite you to check out the album with the 2012 creations, and of course the little things I made.

And because we all love pictures, here is the tawashi rose I made for my grandma's birthday. I made a few more in different colours, well, the petal part at least. I think it's so lovely we don't dare to use it to wash the dishes, but still... ;)

------------------------------------------

Back from the dead?

Hum, can we say this blog has been heavily neglacted? I could say it's work and stuff, but I think I would blame laziness and the lack of interest for blogging. Not to mention that I feel that the experiment "one language, one blog" ment double work, so I think I will come back to just this blog here.

Also, the world has changed. Now people are on Facebook, Twitter, and blogs tend to be a thing of the past. Which is a shame, as the blog format is way nicer to read, especially for crafting blogs where we like to see pictures of the projects, and don't need to see all the other fancy stuff....

And just yesterday, I discovered Pinterest. Now that is an interesting tool. Watching pictures, sharing the ones we like.... I feel I will use it as a sort of project ideas board. If you want to follow me on Pinterest, click the button on the right

But once again, it's gonna be time consuming. Just like... facebook games. The new baby is Chefville. And when you play.... you don't craft. But...

If you remember, last time I showed you my knitted vest at the beginning. Just then we entered a heatwave, hard to knit something big while sweating ;)

I'm glad (and proud) to say the body and arms part is done, and I'm now knitting the hood ! This is a near miracle, as I tend to give up in the middle of such big projects....

Now that was a long blab, so I will stop here, but more will come soon...

---------------------------------------
