An amigurumi doll and need for advice

It all started with me wanting to make a doll with long limbs, a bit like Strawberry Shortcake dolls (especially the old ones). And it ended with a doll looking like those little girls who where the latest craze a while ago in England (if you remember the name, please tell us ! 6pm : Annelize won, it's "Bang on the door" !!! ).

That's what I like with amigurumis and creation, you never know what you get in the end.

As you know, I've been away from the web for a while, and I have a feeling of being lost now that I come back. Thank you so much to all of you who keep on reading. I was discussing with NathDMC, and I realised that this blog is quite known as a stitching blog, but these days I mostly crochet. And I'm not sure crochet fans are aware I exist ! And you are surely getting fed up with my crochet as well, if you are only stitching !

So how do you meet new people? Do you have any experience in changing craft and still blogging?

-------------------------------

18:00 : annelize a trouvé, c'est "Bang on the door"

Year of the tiger?

I made this little tiger over the week end. This Chinese Year is the year of the tiger, and I'm tiger in the Chinese astrology. It defines me quite well usually.

It took me a while to make, because it was a bit fiddly, and I tend to have very short crochet sessions, when it comes to creative stuff. Sort of "let's forget it a little bit and think about it before you continue".

This week is a bit hectic, as they are finally changing the wooden floor in the living room, and it involves a lot of furniture pushing around, and of course not being able to stay in the living room while the guy is working. But it will be nice when finished ;)

--------------------------------

Lacy butterfly

I saw this butterfly on a blog and traced it to GigiS's blog where she was giving the pattern. It was so lovely I had to make it too !!!

----------------------

White amineko

You all know the famous amigurumi cat, who seems asleep and very expressive in many positions. I already made... 4 of them, and this is the fifth !

I know it's not really an original creation, but the problem is that people see my cats, they want one. Worse, I make them one, they want yet another one (they are even cuter as a pair).

So from time to time, I make one of those cats. This one is for my sister in law's birthday (the other sister if you follow my posts and saw the black chick). She saw my cats at home and asked for a black and white cat. So there it is !

I crocheted with my now usual 2mm hook, which gives a nice tight knit (essential so that the little plastic pellets don't come off through the holes), but the cat isn't as positionable as usual. I wonder if I shouldn't use a 3mm hook next time, at least for the limbs. Ah, try and learn...

------------------------------

Ah, l'experimentation...

Little Hello kitty amigurumi

While surfing around, I found this pattern of a little Hello Kitty, so I wanted to try. The ears are a bit too round, but well, that's the spirit !

---------------------------------

Heart shape cooking

For some reason yesterday I woke up at eight. And I thought it was time to take care of the Valentine evening cake. All i knew was that it had to be heart shape (not too much of a challenge when you have the right dish already) and chocolate.

And believe it or not, I coudn't find a basic chocolate cake receipe ! At first I used the "light chocolate cake" one, but the mix was too much for the shape, and it ended more like a chocolate bread than anything. And off in the freezer it went (my grandma loves my cakes, so I'll bring it to her one day).

So I decided to use my usual mini cakes receipe, and I got the right cake !!! Then I did a bit of experimenting with the ganache to cover the cake, and the chocolate heart plaque, and of course painting the pink icing !

So for diner we had spaghetti bolognaise (we both love them, and it's a reference to The Lady and the Tramp), heart shaped bread, cookies, and cake (jump over the french version !). And we watched Titanic. So i spent a lot of time in the kitchen, but it was a good Valentine's day...

----------------------------------

Happy V day and crochet pics

Why the little pig? I saw the pattern on Lucy Ravenscar's blog and found it cute ! Here you see it big and detailled, but in reality it's only 3cm long !

I activated the moderation feature on this blog, but I missed the comments for 2 days, because I was expecting an email from blogspot asking me to moderate them, duh ! But now I found and approuved them, and now is time for some answers...

Beelizabeth, I doubt the japanese comments are real, when I receive about 15 of them at the same time, from the same "person", and on ancient posts. And usually Google translator gives me poetic gibberish, but you can make out something out of it... most of the time ;)

Debbie, the Winter fairy fabric is very special to me, as my friend Kim hand dyed it for me. Needless to say it's a one of a kind ! Joan Elliott used a similar one from Polstitches I think. Isn't it written in the mag? Or maybe on Joan Elliott's blog ? You get the magazines 3 months late? I guess it's their now low cost postage policy, because it took the magazines a bit more than a month to come from England to France (as comparison, a letter by post takes about 3 days).

And to finish this post, I included pictures of my two latest doilies. I have to reduce the crafting a bit at the moment, especially crochet, because I have a bit of carpel tunnel symdrome in my right hand. I'll have to go back to stitching I guess (which I do with my left hand) or learn to crochet with my left hand.... ;)

----------------------------------------

Valentine cookies

La cuisine de San opened again for a batch of valentine cookies. Pink hearts, flowers and teddies... Just red dye in the usual cookie mix !!!

At the moment I make doilies in crochet, and amigurumies, I need to take pictures. I'm still in the "I make doilies but never display them in my home, it's a compulsion, I can't help it !!!"

------------------------

Modif in comments

For the 3 past days I received many comments in japanese (?) and using the google translation they don't really look like real comments (sorry if it's the case). So I activated the moderation of comments. It just means your comments will need my approval before they appear on the blog, many of you already do it....

----------------------

Winter Fairy progress

Yes, I'm back from our "24h in London". It was quite intense, but good ! I managed to buy what I wanted, and even a nice kawai messenger bag (on sale !!!). The hotel (well, bed and breakfast) we went to was basic but very well situated near Warren Street.

I had never noticed how many stairs there are in London. Loads in the underground, and as we went to specific shops using their basement as well as the ground floor, oh, more stairs ! ;)

I was sad to see so many shops closed. No more Virgin/Zavvy Mega Store. No more Borders. And no more nice little newsagent in the middle of Oxford Street to buy US magazines...

The Renegades concert was interesting. It was in that little pub/concert place, and it was absolutely packed ! You enter the bar, then there is an extra room with the stage. We were very close to the stage, but I had to forfeit and go back to the pub zone, where I found a chair from where I was able to see the concert on screen (I'm small, so even close to the stage, I couldn't see anything). And apparently it was a good idea because I left just before the pogo !!! It was weird to have all the fans packed in the concert zone when the pub was filled with people just having their Friday night social drinking !!!

Anyway, I didn't stitch on the trip, but I did yesterday, and you can see a body and wings coming out.... Annie, I always finish the head first, backstitching included, I don't know... it's like I want to be sure that the most important part, the head, is ok, before stitching the rest. A little as if I would stop stitching it if it didn't look good. No bad surprise in the end !

------------------------------
