Live from New York USA !!!

We are at the end of day 2 of our Ne w York trip, so head to the blog Travel and craft in NYC for pictures.

I was so glad today to go to the Barnes and Nobles in Union Square, so many nice things, stationary, novels, and of course craft magazines and books !!!

I found "Just cross Stitch Halloween", CrossStitch and Needle point... It's so nice to find magazines with Halloween patterns in them, because we can't find those in Europe, or scarcely.

And I bought a knitting book, Knitting MochiMochi.

J'ai été à Barnes and Nobles où j'étais ravie de trouver des magazines de point de croix avec du Halloween, et un livre de amigurumis en tricot !

I know, it's 7h20, and we are leaving in an hour. But I'm too excited !!!!

So I post this little white dragon I made to pass the time yesterday. It was the big craze at a moment a few years ago, and I made a yellow dragon at that time, but I wasn't so skilled back then. Even today, it's hard with all the split rings, and I had to do the second wings 3 times !!!!

Now I have to find what to tat on the trip : snowflakes, edgings and such I guess....

Je sais, il est 7h20, et dans une heure on est partis, mais je suis trop excitée !!!

Donc je poste ce dragon que j'ai fait hier pour patienter. C'était la grande mode de le faire il y a quelques années, et il est particulièrement délicat à faire, avec plein de split rings. J'ai du recommencer la deuxième aile 3 fois !!!!

Maintenant, je vais faire des flocons, des petits trucs pendant le voyage....

Nath, tu devais être fatiguée, dans le post précédent j'ai dit que j'avais doublé le sac. Je double souvent mes sacs en tricot, car sinon ils sont trop lâches ! Sauf quand ils sont en forme de bourse, on dirait que ça tient mieux !

Travel and craft in New York

Last message from here (normally), as tomorrow we are flying to NYC. We opened a blog to write about the trip, Travel and craft in NYC, and we should update daily with pictures, if everything goes ok of course.

I made a knitted handbag to carry my papers, camera, etc... It's zipped, doubled, and with special stitches. I plan on adding some tatting on it, but I still have to make it  !!!!

Normalement ceci sera le dernier message avant le départ pour New York. Nous avons créé un blog, Travel and craft in New York, pour poster photos et impressions au fur et à mesure du voyage. Evidemment, si on arrive à avoir de l'internet. 

J'ai fait un sac à main en tricot, pour mettre mes petits trucs comme l'appareil photo et tout. Il est fermé par fermeture éclair, il est doublé, et il y a des points différents.

Je compte ajouter de la frivolité dessus, mais il faut encore que je la fasse !!!

I've been talking about this project I started around the 1st of August. I wanted to tat something big, for a change, and to see if I could do it too !!!

And it was quite a challenge, mostly time wise. That's a lot of rings and chains. And the worst, for me, were the parts where you have to leave space between rings ! So the end piece was a bit wobbly, and so I had to block it. And it worked !

Only a few days before the big trip to New York, and reading the TSA website, there's not much we can't carry in the plane. Only knitting needles are prohibited on international planes, but according to them, even stitching is ok? And little scissors ? Hum, strange...

Anyway, I'm growing impatient as you can guess !!!!

Ca fait un bout de temps que je parle de ce grand napperon en frivolité, que j'ai commencé comme challenge aux environs du premier aout. En fait, le challenge était surtout le temps, car ça fait beaucoup de ronds et de chaines !!! Et aussi les ronds uniquement séparés par un espace, qu'il faut régulier. Si bien qu'au départ le truc final était assez gondolé, mais une séance de lavage et acupuncture (ie tendre sur coussin avec des aiguilles) l'a transformé en napperon utilisable.

Le voyage à New York approche, et en lisant le site de la TSA, il n'y a pas grand chose qu'on ne puisse pas emporter dans la cabine de l'avion, à part les aiguiles à tricoter, et encore, seulement sur les vols internationaux. On dirait même que la broderie et les sciseaux sont acceptés, mais... méfiance !

En attendant, le stress grandit...

Blue beaded pouch

Mom brought me knitting magazines from the UK, and I found this cute pattern for a round pouch, with a diamond pattern, And I saw seeded beads in the middle of the diamonds.

Youcan guess I'm back into knitting, but I also finished my big tatted doily, but it's in the process of blocking at the moment, so you'll see it soon...

Maman m'a rapporté des magazines d'Angleterre, et donc j'ai eu envie de commencer tout de suite cette pochette cylindrique, avec un motif diamant, et perles cousues aux centres....

Je suis à nouveau dans le tricot, même si j'ai enfin fini mon napperon en frivolité, mais il est en blocage pour le moment, donc vous le verrez à la prochaine édition !

A bit of knitting for a change

Not so long ago my mom asked me to make her a bag for the beach. She wanted it able to contain her plastic cushion/bag, which was all old and not nice looking.

I started with the idea of a 3D picture for the front, but the pattern was a bit too small when calculated, and ended up terribly too small when knitted. So I made the yellow band around, and then the top. So the result is quite original.

Mom seemed very pleased with it. I had to stop tatting and knit so she could have the bag before her trip to South of France end of August !!!

She also brought me British knitting magazines from her little trips in July, and they are so nice ! Like the cross stitching magazines. In France, you just have patterns, and the patterns are mostly classical jumpers. In England, you have loads of chit chats, presentation of new products, original patterns, etc.... So you can only imagine how happy I am !

I haven't updated on the tatting front for a while, because I'm making quite a big doily. Mostly as a challenge. You will see it soon.

And the trip to New York draws ever so nearer, the stress is coming... ;)

J'ai délaissé mes navettes quelques temps pour finir ce sac tricoté pour ma maman. Elle m'avait demandé un sac pour la plage, où elle pourrait glisser son sac/coussin en plastique qui faisait vieux et moche (c'est un de ces sacs kodak donnés dans les années 80 ??? Qu'on peut gonfler en coussin). Et je voulais qu'elle l'aie avant qu'elle ne parte pour le Sud fin aout, donc. tic tic tic les aiguilles !!!

Surtout que j'ai eu des problèmes de taille. Au départ, je voulais une image en relief, ici Titi, mais c'était trop petit, d'où les bandes jaunes autour du dessin.

Maman avait l'air contente de son Titi, alors ça va ;) Elle m'a d'ailleurs rapporté des magazines de tricot anglais. Quelle différence avec ceux de la France !!! Au lieu d'avoir juste des explications pour faire des pulls, il y a des modèles originaux, des discussions, des présentations de nouveaux produits... comme les magazines de point de croix en fait !!!!

Au niveau de la frivolité, comme je me suis attaquée à un grand napperon, je préfère attendre de l'avoir fini avant de le montrer, ce qui ne devrait pas tarder...

Tatted update

What a surprise, I keep on tatting !

I'm still using Cebelia 30, and I wonder how that thread is available in all the colours of the rainbow in the US, and here, only in white???? I have Perle 12 and 8, but the result looks a bit "plushy". Especially the black, which is potentially a problem for wearables and necklaces, because there's always a bit of rubbing here and there.

So my question is : Where can I buy threads in New York? Any adress in the Manhattan area? It would help a lot for my trip end of August.

And talking about trip, and crafting on the plane... I trained myself to join picots without the tiny hook on the aero shuttle. I'm not sure they wouldn't consider it too pointy for security.

I also tried gold thread with a little rosette. After all, it could be nice in a Christmas tree?

On ne sera pas étonnés de voir encore de la frivolité.... J'utilise encore du cebelia 30, et je me demande pourquoi en Amérique on peut trouver ce fil dans toutes les couleur de l'arc en ciel, alors qu'ici on doit se contenter de blanc.

Donc je me demande où on peut trouver des fils à New York, des adresses dans la zone de Manhattan seraient super pour mon voyage fin août. D'ailleurs, en préparation de l'avion, je me suis entrainée à joindre les picots sans crochet (au cas où ils penseraient que je vais attaquer l'avion avec).

Et j'ai aussi essayé d'utiliser un fil doré, je trouve que ça pourrait faire bien dans un arbre de Noël?

More tatting, more delicate

I continue with tatting, and this time I'm using size 30 DMC Cebelia thread. It gives a more delicate result. I started with a small medaillon, then a square, and finally bigger doily. Even if they are still small, I didn't dare starting a large project just like that, because my tatting tend to have difficulties to lay out flat So....

It's getting less warm here, but still summer weather. I finally took the plunge and went to the hair dresser to get my hair cut, a first in 15 years !!! And this time, I loved the result !

Je continue avec la frivolité, mais cette fois-ci avec du Cebelia 30, ce qui donne des trucs plus fins. J'ai fait ça progressivement, d'abord un petit médaillon, puis un carré, avant de faire les napperons un peu plus grands. Mais pas si grands que ça, car je n'ai pas osé de grand projet, vu que ma frivolité a tendance à ne pas finir très plate....

Il fait moins chaud dans Ch'Nord, mais c'est quand même l'été. Et du coup j'ai enfin osé aller chez le coiffeur, une première depuis... 15 ans ! Et pour une fois, j'aime ma tête à la sortie de l'opération !

First Happy National day to our Belgian friends. I know there are a quite a few out there ;)

It's July, it's hot, and if I had energy to tat a bit, it's hard to go on the web, even more to blog !!!! So this post is picture heavy, with minimum talk. The pictures are in reverse order of date (newest first). The snowflakes are from "Festive snowfakes and ornaments".

To answer Suztats, I use crochet thread from supermarkets, and it's roughly size 20. The white flake is real Cebelia size 20, but the blue thread I used for the other flakes is a bit thicker.

Next I will try size 30....

Tout d'abord, Bonne Fête Nationale à nos amis belges, je sais qu'il y en a par ici.... ;)

C'est le mois de Juillet, il fait chaud, et si j'ai le courage de faire de la frivolité de temps en temps, c'est plus difficile de se mettre à l'ordi et de poster ! Donc ce message sera principalement plein de photos. La plus récente au début.

Les flocons viennent du livre "Festive snowflakes and ornaments".

Two more animals

Here are two more animals I made from the Tatted animals book. They are easy and fun to do, but they make huge motifs ;)

I received my order from Be Stitched on Thursday, it only took one week to cross the Atlantic, I'm so glad !!!! I especially love the "Tatted artistry of Teiko Fujito" book. I don't know why, Japanese always seem to come up with fresh and delicate ideas.

I also got other more classical books, a picot gauge (still not sure how to use it) and a Tatsy shuttle I'm really not sure how to use. It's so huge !!!! I guess it's practical to tat with big beads, but it's not going to be easy on my small hands. If you use these shuttles, any tip would be welcome.

Voici mes deux derniers animaux. C'est amusant à faire, mais comme ils sont grands !!!

Ma commande chez Be Stitched est arrivée, en une semaine, c'est super cool ! J'aime surtout le livre "the Tatted artistry of Teiko Fujito". Je ne sais pas pourquoi, mais les japonais arrivent toujours avec des trucs originaux et délicats.

J'ai aussi d'autres livres plus classiques, un picot gauge et une énorme navette que je ne vois pas encore comment utiliser. Mais bon....
