Crochet experimentations

I really enjoy making those beaded crochet things and borders. I made a very long border in green thread and purple beads to sew on a tshirt.

And I made little motifs, 2 bells and a butterfly, but they don't look very nice.

I love making crocheted flowers, and I have loads of patterns here and there. I tried many of them, creating a lot of lone flowers I haven't used for anything, but I can't remember what pattern they are related to. So I decided to make a book of flowers, with the patterns I like, and the thread version stuck next to it. This will serve as reference book as I would like to try crochet jewellery. Originally I wanted to do tatted jewellery, but I'm more comfortable with crochet at the moment.

And while I was browsing around, I came across this very neat japanese blog full of free patterns, "Crochet a little". So I started with this owl motif, isn't it cute?

Crochet and beads borders

In the spirit of trying yet another craft (or deviation, merge of 2 known crafts), here are borders made in crochet, with beads. Last month I bought this lovely book, and I only try now ! The editor has made this video, so you'll be able to see it up close. Obviously, my book is in French, for once I got it in a shop (and not the web).

And here what I made so far :

And the funniest is that I found a blog with someone who has done exactly the same as me, but a few days earlier : The blog with no name.

I need ideas where to put borders here and there.... These 2 samples are big enough to decorate mini eggs for Easter.

-----------------

Tatting progress

I made a round and a half on the doily since last update. It's big, and I have to refill shuttles more than every round. I so hate to sew the ends in... sometimes it's not so elegant ! Obviously it's ruffled, but I expect it will look worse and worse before the end, and blocking of course ;)

-------------------------------------

Fimo bunny and owls

I really enjoy making stuff in polymer clay. It's like making your own cute figurines ! And apparently there are so many different things to do with it ! Of course, internet is the place to get plenty of neat ideas, and there are some great tutorials on YouTube too !

First, as Spring and Easter are closing in.... I had to make a bunny. His eyes are actually beads. I saw someone use beads in projects, but I feared beads would melt in the oven, but no.... it's all cool ;)

----------------

-----------------

I also made some owls, very very small (1 and 3 cm), just because they are cute !

---------------------

Finally, here is a comparison of my first doll before and after varnish with the glassificator. I used this because I already have it, and I thought a protecting resin would be great for something that is supposed to be hung from a bag or phone...

First polymer clay doll

I'm still in a period of trying new stuff. And yesterday evening I made this polymer clay doll. I have old fimo in my cupboards, so I want to use them. They are a bit hard, but nothing warming up can't fix. They were hard to start with. So I can congratulate myself for the good conservation of  the thing. Tin box is the name ;)

She's 4cm high, and there is a ring on top to transform her into a charm. I think I will varnish it.

----------------------------------------

Bunny, now with tatted bib

I'm not sure you can clearly see the tatted lace around the bunny's neck.... But I'm not sure any colour would contrast well anyway.... It gives a vintage look ;)

I made the pattern myself, I just took my shuttles and made rings and chains, and voilà !

--------------------------------

First fabric bunny

I love to make soft toys, especially bunnies. I tried crochet, knitting, felt, and here is a sewed bunny out of regular fabric. My little bunny turned out ok, but I had difficulties with the ears. It's obviously hand sewn, as it's only about 15cm tall. I added plastic pellets for stability in its behind.

I think I will make a tatted collar or a bib, it looks a bit naked ;)

-------------

TIAS finished, doily and felted animals

We only had one day of snow, but now it's still very cold ! Half the time I feel like curling up in bed, and half the time I want to go out in the freezing sun !

The TIAS is finished : it's a goat. If I had to choose a pattern, I would have never tatted a goat, but I really like it. It's cute, and it feels like Easter time. I really enjoyed the TIAS experience : the expectation of the next piece to tat, wondering what the finished piece will be, and the challenge of having to use new tatting techniques.... And of course the fun of being part of a group of people tatting the same thing at the same time.

Now I only tat the doily. Here is a picture of the progress. There is a problem with this pattern : the number of ds is not indicated for the trefoils !!! So I had to strain my eyes on the picture of the finished piece, and guess. This isn't serious work from the book people.

I also sewed a bit. I made a felt bunny, and a felt owl. I'm in the middle of a fabric bunny at the moment. Somehow I always love to make soft toys ;)

---------------------------------

Snow day

5pm : it's been cold for 3 days, sub zero temperatures, but all dry... If you are well covered, it's sunny, so it's a nice weather to walk about.... and even drive.

5.20pm : look at the picture, the landscape is all white. And with the cold, the snow stays.

8.05pm : DBF is finally home. I had updates thanks to the wonders of technology (ie cell phone). He had to park his car in the street on the way, and used the underground.

In the meantime, I was snug as a bug at home, playing Harvest Moon Tales of two towns. I made a new hat for DBF, who lost the first one I made last year. Never mind, it's a simple grey and black hat knitted on circular needles, so it's fast to make. No problem. Now I knit a brown hat for me.

I also tat, first the TIAS, and now we are sure it's a goat. It's hard to survive such a mystery and tat only little pieces at a time !!!!

As it's February, so very far from events and Christmas fairs, I started a big doily. See my progress, and the end result I hope to achieve !

----------------------------
