Look what's back?

Long time no see... I looked in the archives, and the last update was January 12... and there is no much difference yet !

I guess that if I keep stitching from time to time, it will be finished eventually?

Ca faisait longtemps... le dernier post sur Cendrillon date du 12 janvier, et on ne voit pas vraiment la bande blanche que j'ai faite récemment !

Mais bon, je suppose que si je continue, même à pas d'escargots, je vais bien finir par le voir terminé?

Now with frame !!!

Yes, it's already framed, and displayed on the dvd/crafty bits shelves in the living room. It's next to the tv, in front of me when i stitch, so it's under my eyes all the time.

Of course, I expect DBF to put it somewhere else as soon as he comes back to put his PS3, but still...

Even the frame has a story. I stitched a husky dog head for my brother a few years back. Of course I didn't think of the guy factor when choosing the frame, so I got the frame back, and Mom put the dog in a more plain frame.

I didn't mind, knowing that I could use the frame for something else and... voila !

It's gold and darker area. I'm not a fan of golden frames, but the fairy is shimmering already, and the dark in the frame reminds me of the dark in the picture.

Some people asked me what I'm stitching now, well... "Welcome to the nuthouse", and I dug up cinderella as well... I need to progress big projects from time to time....

I noticed a new feature from blogspot: "followers". And I already have 4 of them even before adding the widget to the sidebar !!! How did you become a follower without this link???

I would also like to welcome the new visitors, I see a few commented today, and I can say I'm over the moon !!!

Well, time to go and stitch a little bit... Of course I have to do a bit of cleaning and packing as tomorrow is back onthe road to DBF's....

Hé oui, aussitôt fini, aussitôt encadré ! Bon, le destin m'a un peu aidée... Il y a quelques années, j'ai brodé un husky pour mon frère. Malheureusement, je n'ai pas pris en compte ses gouts et sa déco intérieure dans le choix du cadre.

Si bien que ma mère l'a changé, et m'a donné le cadre. ce qui tombe bien vu qu'il convient parfaitement à la fée, non seulement au niveau des dimensions, mais aussi dans le style et le fait que c'est doré/marron foncé, ce qui rappelle le dessin !!!!

Pour l'instant, le cadre et posé sur la bibliothèque dvd/craft à coté de la télé, il est sous mes yeux quand je brode. Evidemment, DBF le changera surement de place la prochaine fois qu'il vient, vu qu'il doit trouver où poser sa PS3....

A la question "mais que broder maintenant?", je vais répondre "Welcome to the nuthouse", et je vais aussi ressortir Cendrillon. Il faut bien avancer les gros projets parfois...

J'ai remarqué de nouvelles options de blogspot, comme les "abonnés", si bien que j'ai mis ce widget sur la gauche.

Enfin, bienvenue aux nouveaux, qui ont commenté d'ailleurs aujourd'hui, je suis aux anges !

Bon, c'est pas tout ça, mais je dois quand même broder un peu, et aussi ranger et enpaqueter pour le week end, car demain, à moi la route vers la France à nouveau....

Halloween Fairy finally finished !!!

it should have been a great day : after so many hours of intense stitching, with metallics (my least favourites) and beads (they are ok), the halloween Fairy is finally complete.

But life isn't so fun, as as DBF had to go home, and I've just been told that the sale of my Harlow house is no longer proceeding due to the buyer being unable to have a mortgage.

Add to that the fact that I have to go back to work after a few great days off, and the weather is not really great either...

So it's hard to join in the US joy (unless your candidate didn't win of course, they tend to forget about those in the news ;), and to concentrate on the fact that the week end will be there soon, and I will see DBF again.

On the stitching piece over here... Well, I have mixed feelings.

First, the colours. The very dark crosses flirt with the very light and shiny beads, and the overall piece is very very shiny. Too shiny? That's something no picture can really show....

Then of course, I finished it late. Do I frame it straight away and display it on the wall despite the fact that halloween is now long gone?

Here Halloween was quasi inexistent, no trick or treaters, and the shops are now ready for St Nicolas, so it's chocolate and toys all over... there is no patterns for that occasion?

Ca devrait être un grand jour: la fin, enfin, de l'Halloween fairy !!! Après des heures d'efforts, surtout à me battre avec les fils métalliques (les kreiniks ca va, mais j'ai un DMC dans le lot, et c'est moins glorieux), et à faire les perles... tada ! j'ai même réussi à défroisser la toile !

Mais voilà, hier non seulement DBF a du rentrer dans ses pénates après ses vacances (et quelques jours pour moi aussi), et la mauvaise nouvelle que ma maison d'Harlow ne se vend plus car l'acheteur n'a pas eu son emprunt. L'histoire de la crise...

Sinon, je suis un peu partagée à propos de l'Halloween Fairy. Ma première réaction est "qu'est ce que ça blinque !!!"

Il y a plus de métallique et de perles, très brillants et de couleurs vives, qui contrastent avec les couleurs très sombres du fil normal.... Cela ne ferait-il pas un peu... pacotille? Evidemment aucune photo ne semble retranscrire ceci.

Et puis comme j'ai fini franchement après Halloween, est-ce que je vais l'encadrer et la mettre au mur maintenant pour toute l'année, ou attendre?

Il faut dire qu'ici Halloween était quasi inexistantà part les décos dans les magasins, et que St Nicolas et ses chocolats et jouets sont à l'honneur déjà. Il n'y a pas de modèles pour cette fête?

And here you can see DBF's decoration master piece for halloween. He's more excited about this day than he would be for Christmas.

So he decided to decorate with some of my stitchings (little pillows mostly, masks and other halloween stuff.



Note the ficus full of decorations. This tree used to be in his flat, but as he moved he didn't want it anymore, so... I drove it home for an hour and a half. But it seems happy to have more space in here anyway...
The plan tonight is to have a sort of celebration, with horror movie, crèpes and gifts. Don't ask....

The halloween Fairy is far from finished. It's hard to work all day, come home to spend time with DBF, and try to manage a bit of stitching in the middle. I'll have a few days off next week, I really need it !!!

Cameo, I think it would be difficult to send me stuff to finish, but I'm thinking about making a tutorial to make the Autumn harvest piece. I plan on making something similar for Christmas stuff...

Voici la décoration d'Halloween de DBF. Pour lui c'est un jour encore mieux que Noel, et donc il est très excité, et a prévu toute soirée, avec film de zombies en 3D et cadeaux.

Donc il a ressorti certaines de mes broderies, et des guirlandes, etc... pour décorer la cheminée et le ficus.

C'est le ficus qui était chez lui, mais comme il n'en voulait plus dans son nouvel appart, je l'ai ramené chez moi après une heure et demie de route, et il est bien content car ici au moins il a de la place !

La fée d'halloween n'avance pas vite, il faut dire qu'après des journées de boulot bien remplies, puis des soirées à s'occuper de DBF, c'est pas évident de broder !

Heureusement que j'ai quelques jours de congé la semaine prochaine...

Week end progress

Many of you will be glad to know that I am totally hooked on the Halloween Fairy. so that's the project I'm working on this week end, even in the middle of DBF's move.

And now it's a bit cleared out (we can use the kitchen, bed and tv... and obviously the net).

As usual, I made... the head first. And the owl, because the colours were the same as the skirt I'm stitching down.

I also stitched a bit of metallics, and I really enjoyed using the kreinik threads.

I now hope to finish it in time for Halloween...

Certaines vont jubiler: je suis à fond dans l'halloween Fairy, même en ce week end de déménagement de DBF, ce qui veut dire broder sur un coin de table alors que les hommes portent les cartons... mais maintenant c'est déjà bien dégagé, on peut vivre normalement, avec le net, au milieu des cartons...

Comme d'hab, j'ai commencé par la tête, et en prime on a le hibou.

J'ai même testé les fils métalliques kreiniks, et ils sont super à utiliser, heureusement car il y en a énormément dans ce projet.

Du coup, j'espère l'avoir finie pour Halloween...

Do I really have to choose?

As you can see on the "I'm stitching" section of the sidebar, I'm stitching 3 projects at the moment. Depending on how I feel...

Comme vous pouvez voir dans la barre de gauche, je travaille sur différentes choses en ce moment, selon l'humeur...

- First, we have an Halloween Mill Hill kit. Cartboard, threads and beads. It will lovely in the end, but it's quite difficult with loads of different beads, and I can't do the sewing method.

This is the "I want a cute change" project".

- Tout d'abord, un kit Mill Hill pour Halloween, sur carton, avec fils et perles... beaucoup de perles... Et comme je ne peux pas broder en cousant, c'est pas évident.

C'est le projet du changement.

- Then, I dug up the Halloween fairy, now that I have all but one Kreinik thread (the silver one i think).

Lovely design, but the fabric I chose a difficult fabric. Hard to know which hole to go through somehow...

But she's going to be so great once finished, I want to make the effort after all.

- Ensuite, nous avons la fée d'Halloween, que j'ai décidé de repprendre maintenant que j'ai tous les fils Kreinik ( sauf un, l'argenté je crois).

C'est un projet superbe, mais la toile que j'utilise rend le progrès difficile, car on ne voit pas bien dans quel trou il faut plonger !

Enfin, je veux quand même continuer, petit à petit...


- And finally, "Welcome to the Nuthouse", here you see a part of the squirell. Big blocks, variegated threads, this is the simple no brain project.

Now you can see that after lines and lines of the same, I feel like doing a bit of the Halloween fairy ! ;)

- Et finalement, "Welcome to the Nuthouse", on voit ici une partie de l'écureil. Avec ses gros blocs et les fils variés, c'est le projet-repos, celui qui est choisi quand on ne veut pas s'embêter.

Et, revers de la médaille, quand j'en ai marre de faire des lignes et des lignes, c'est halloween Fairy qui appelle...


Now, at home, no problem to switch. But what about the week end? do I have to take all three? Especially since it's moving day on Saturday for DBF, not really time to expend with beads and such !

In other news, someone made an offer on one of my houses (the Harlow one, the one I really want to get rid of), so I should have part of the burden lifted !

Maintenant, à la maison, pas de problème pour passer d'un projet à l'autre, mais en voyage le week end? Surtout que DBF déménage ce week end, donc ce n'est pas très propice à s'étaler avec des perles !

Autres nouvelles, j'ai un acheteur potentiel pour la maison d'Harlow, celle que je voulais absolument me débarasser... Voyons si ça se concrétise... Ce serait une partie du fardeau enlevé...

Pre week end update: Cinderella and Snowflakes

Well, it seems yesterday was a regular blogfest... I have to admit I had fun !!!!

It's Saturday morning, and I plan on stitching a lot this week end, enless I kinda give up. So we need pictures.

First, Cinderella, where you won't see any significant changes unless you want to play "spot the differences" with the previous picture.

I did try some metallic leaves in the middle. Blue and black to make green. odd but true. These a Madeira Rainbow metallics. I had Cinderella as a Leisure Craft kit (a UK company that sells Mirabilia and Lavender Lace patterns, and also kit what you need). They replaced the Kreinik threads by Madeira, because they are supposed to be easier to use. As I never really used Kreinik, I can only say it's better than DMC metallics ;)

The over all plan is to stitch the back of the dress, little by little.

But then yesterday I remembered Snowflakes is a SAL, and it is coming to an end, so I decided to work onthat this week end. Mostly.

My problem with the project was the dark fabric, and although it's a sunny morning in good old England, I would have difficulties seeing properly without my daylight lamp. I wonder how I ever lived without it...

So here is a picture, mostly for Sue W (stitcherw) who is a fan of my colour changes and encourages me to persue this project. Yesterday evening I stitched "wflakes" and the begining of the green border.

Now, a bit of discussion from yesterday...

The first bit was how we are "fashion victims" as stitchers... I'm a first victim, I'm so inspired by you all... But i can't help but notice you also are under influence ! Otherwise, how would we explain that at some point most blogs show samplers only, or Mirabilia, etc... ?

Pink Canary pointed me out that she got the new Joan Elliott book, "Women's world in cross stitch". When I looked from UK sites, and even the David and Charles (editor) site, it's said to be out in March 08. But apparently it's already out inthe US??? how come?

Zohrah, glad to see you back (a little bit) and that the cross stitch bug called you home... I know how hard it is to resist a magazine when they show something we like on the cover !!!

Beaucoup d'action sur le blog hier... j'aime ca !!! Avant de commencer mon week end de broderie... des photos !

Tout d'abord Cendrillon. Et a moins que vous ne vouliez jouer au jeu des differences, vous ne verrez rien de notable par rapport a la photo precedente. En fait, j'ai essaye les metallques avec leseuilles du milieu. C'est du Madeira a la place du Kreinik demande. Une substitution faite par Leisure Craft, qui fait des kits avec les Mirabilias et Lavender Lace.

D'apres eux, ces fils sont plus faciles a utiliser car totalement metalliques. Tout ce que je peux dire c'est que c'est plus agreable que les fils DMC metalliques ;)

Hier je me suis souvenue que Snowflakes est un SAL, et que ca se terminait bientot. Donc ce projet va venir en priorite... Depuis la derniere fois j'ai brode "wflakes" et commence la bordure verte. J'avais arrete ce projet car je ne voyais pas bien les trous dans ce tissu fonce. Mais ma lampe Daylight a regle le probleme. Comment ai-je vecu sans?

This is Cinderella (from Mirabilia) as she is now.

Loads of patches of colours. Huge design. The dress might be like 70% finished, but there's a whole castle and a border to stitch....

Of course you can't expect me to go on until it's finished... But little by little, she will be finished !

Of course there is nothing crazy about taking back an UFO (if anything, this is a very wise decision...).

No, the crazyness refers to the next picture. I took the plunge and bought a daylight portable lamp. I enjoyed Lili's (she's got the fancy rolly floorstand one) during our Saturday evening stitching sessions.

Plus I'm fed up with those "no light" days we are having. Juggling to take pictures that aren't that nice anyway... Here I took Cinderella without a flash.

If you add the works on dark fabric and the miniatures (I still have to show you my second mini-rabbit project), I really needed that lamp ! Of course the portability means I can travel around with it as well...

Before you ask... I bought it in hobby craft. I would have spared money by buying online, but I fear the bulb would come broken or something. As I was there I bought Cross Stitch Collection magazine, because of Joan Elliott's sunbonnet girls. They will make nice cards...

And I finally bought my tickets to go to Excel's Stitch and creative show in London. Here I used the magazines discount...

I usually miss the event due to personal timing clashes... so I hope it's good !

Ou j'en suis avec Cinderella... il reste encore beaucoup a faire !!!!

J'ai aussi achete une "daylight" lampe, ce qui est pratique pour prendre les photos le soir, et faire mes miniatures, travail sur tissu fonce,e tc...

J'y ai pris gout avec la lampe de Lili, qui elle a la version sur pied roulant. Moi c'est la portable, pour pouvoir voyager.

J'ai aussi achete un magazine pour les petites filles style Sarah Kay, et des tickets pour l'expo a Londres du 1er Mars. D'habitude je rate l'expo pour raisons perso... mais la... faut y aller !
